2 numbers for the your life Iowa program on public school
3 student identification cards and including applicability
4 provisions.
5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 279.77 Student identification cards
2 —— suicide prevention information.
3 A public school that issues identification cards to students
4 in grades seven through twelve shall include on either side of
5 the identification card the your life Iowa crisis telephone and
6 text numbers. A public school that issues identification cards
7 to students in grades five and six may include on either side
8 of the identification card the your life Iowa crisis telephone
9 and text numbers.
10 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to student
11 identification cards issued on or after the effective date
12 of this Act. A school that has a supply of unused student
13 identification cards shall use that supply prior to complying
14 with the requirements of this Act relating to student
15 identification cards.
16 EXPLANATION
17 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
18 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
19 This bill requires public schools to include on either side
20 of identification cards issued to students in grades seven
21 through twelve the your life Iowa crisis telephone and text
22 numbers. The bill authorizes a public school that issues
23 identification cards to students in grades five and six to do
24 so as well.
25 The bill applies to student identification cards issued on
26 or after the effective date of the bill. A school that has a
27 supply of unused student identification cards shall use that
28 supply prior to complying with the requirements of the bill.
