McCLINTOCK, GOBBLE, ANDREWS, BOSSMAN, BLOOMINGDALE,
SHIPLEY, SORENSEN, THOMPSON, BERGAN, KAUFMANN,
WESTRICH, MITCHELL, HEIN, THORUP, and MAXWELL
1 A Resolution urging the United States Congress to
2 oppose efforts to expand the Supreme Court of the
3 United States.
4 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives strongly
5 endorses the principle that the Supreme Court of the
6 United States should be composed of nine justices; and
7 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives expressly
8 rejects efforts to “pack the court”; and
9 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives recognizes the
10 millions of Iowans who support an independent Supreme
11 Court free from the partisan influences of the United
12 States Congress; and
13 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives believes that
14 any plans to increase the number of justices on the
15 Supreme Court are shortsighted, dishonest, and will
16 ultimately undermine the credibility of the Supreme
17 Court; NOW THEREFORE,
18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That
19 the House of Representatives urges the members of the

1 United States Congress to firmly oppose any plan to
2 expand the Supreme Court of the United States beyond
3 nine justices; and
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage of
5 this resolution, the Chief Clerk of the House of
6 Representatives shall transmit copies of this
7 resolution to the members of Iowa’s Congressional
8 delegation.
