HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 15
BY HITE, BLOOMINGDALE, A. MEYER, LUNDGREN, DOLECHECK,
WILLS, MAXWELL, HEIN, GUSTAFSON, NORDMAN, BACON,
KLEIN, STONE, BRADLEY, INGELS, SORENSEN, GERHOLD,
SIEGRIST, SALMON, MOMMSEN, WHEELER, BRINK, FISHER,
KAUFMANN, WORTHAN, PAUSTIAN, MITCHELL, KERR,
ANDREWS, WESTRICH, OSMUNDSON, and GRABER
1 A Resolution urging the members of the General
2 Assembly to request that a special session be
3 held to commemorate the one hundred seventy-fifth
4 anniversary of Iowa attaining statehood.
5 WHEREAS, the Iowa House of Representatives wishes
6 to honor and pay respect to the history of the State
7 of Iowa; and
8 WHEREAS, December 28, 2021, is the one hundred
9 seventy-fifth anniversary of the date President James
10 Knox Polk signed into law the bill granting statehood
11 to Iowa; and
12 WHEREAS, it is the desire of the House of
13 Representatives to recognize and celebrate this
14 milestone in the history of the State of Iowa by
15 holding a special session of the General Assembly; and
16 WHEREAS, the Old Capitol Building in the city of
17 Iowa City is an appropriate venue to remind members
18 of our shared history and the history of the General
19 Assembly; NOW THEREFORE,
20 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That
21 the House of Representatives urges each member of the
22 General Assembly to submit a written request to the
23 presiding officer of the appropriate chamber that a

1 special session be held on December 28, 2021, at the
2 Old Capitol Building in Iowa City for the purpose of
3 commemorating the one hundred seventy-fifth anniversary
4 of Iowa attaining statehood; and
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of
6 Representatives requests that no member of the General
7 Assembly should receive or accept a salary or per diem
8 for attendance at a special session called for the
9 purposes enumerated in this resolution.
