HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 14
BY MASCHER
1 A Resolution recognizing and congratulating the
2 University of Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team
3 on the 2020-2021 college basketball season and for
4 qualifying for the 2021 National Collegiate Athletic
5 Association Division 1 men’s basketball tournament
6 as a No. 2 seed in the West Region.
7 WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes men’s
8 basketball team finished fourth in the 2020-2021 Big
9 10 Conference regular-season standings, and finished
10 the regular season ranked as a top-10 team in the
11 nation; and
12 WHEREAS, the team had four players selected as
13 Winter Academic All-Big 10 honorees; and
14 WHEREAS, the team finished the season with the Big
15 10 Conference men’s basketball Player of the Year,
16 Wooden Award winner, Oscar Robertson Trophy winner,
17 Lute Olson Award winner, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award
18 winner, and Naismith Trophy winner, awarded annually
19 to the best player in men’s college basketball, Luka
20 Garza; and
21 WHEREAS, Luka Garza became the school’s first-ever
22 back-to-back and unanimous First Team All-American; and
23 WHEREAS, the team earned a victory in the 2021
24 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division
25 1 men’s basketball tournament over Grand Canyon
26 University; NOW THEREFORE,
27 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
28 That the House of Representatives congratulates Coach

1 Fran McCaffery and all the members of the University
2 of Iowa men’s basketball team for an outstanding
3 2020-2021 college basketball season which saw the team
4 consistently ranked as a top-15 team in the country,
5 and for representing the state in the second round of
6 the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1
7 men’s basketball tournament.
