1 Section 1. Section 1C.1, Code 2021, is amended by adding the
2 following new subsection:
3 NEW SUBSECTION. 5A. Juneteenth Day, the third Monday in
4 June.
5 Sec. 2. Section 1C.2, subsection 1, Code 2021, is amended by
6 adding the following new paragraph:
7 NEW PARAGRAPH. 0d. Juneteenth Day, the third Monday in
8 June.
9 EXPLANATION
10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
12 This bill establishes Juneteenth Day, the third Monday in
13 June, as a legal public holiday and a paid holiday for state
14 employees. Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of people
15 previously enslaved in the United States.
