1 An Act relating to the local fire protection and emergency
2 medical service providers grant program.
3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 100.19, subsection 7, paragraph b, Code
2 2021, is amended by striking the paragraph and inserting in
3 lieu thereof the following:
4 b. The state fire marshal shall establish a local fire
5 protection and emergency medical service providers grant
6 program to provide grants in the following order of priority:
7 (1) Local fire protection service providers and local
8 emergency medical service providers to establish or provide
9 fireworks safety education programming to members of the
10 public, and for the purchase of necessary enforcement,
11 protection, or emergency response equipment related to the sale
12 and use of consumer fireworks in this state.
13 (2) Local volunteer fire protection service providers for
14 the purchase of necessary enforcement, protection, or emergency
15 response equipment.
16 EXPLANATION
17 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
18 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
19 This bill relates to the local fire protection and emergency
20 medical service providers grant program.
21 The bill authorizes the state fire marshal to provide grants
22 under the local fire protection and emergency medical service
23 providers grant program to local volunteer fire protection
24 service providers for the purchase of necessary equipment, in
25 addition to the current authorization to provide grants to
26 local fire protection service providers and local emergency
27 medical service providers to provide fireworks safety education
28 programming and to purchase necessary equipment related to
29 the sale and use of consumer fireworks. The bill requires
30 the state fire marshal to prioritize the grants to local fire
31 protection service providers and local emergency medical
32 service providers.
