1 An Act relating to certain fees of the secretary of state.
2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 9.4, Code 2021, is amended to read as
2 follows:
3 9.4 Fees.
4 The secretary of state shall collect all fees directed by
5 law to be collected by the secretary of state, including the
6 following:
7 1. For certificate, with seal attached, three dollars.
8 2. For a fee to be determined by the secretary of state by
9 rule adopted pursuant to chapter 17A for a copy of any law or
10 record, upon the request of any person, a fee to be determined
11 by the secretary of state by rule adopted pursuant to chapter
12 17A.
13 Sec. 2. Section 9F.3, Code 2021, is amended to read as
14 follows:
15 9F.3 Certification —— copies.
16 When certified by the secretary of state the census shall be
17 in full force and effect throughout the state. On payment of
18 a fee of two dollars by a requesting party, the secretary of
19 state shall furnish a certified copy of the whole or any part
20 of such census report.
21 Sec. 3. REPEAL. Section 9C.6, Code 2021, is repealed.
22 EXPLANATION
23 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
24 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
25 This bill relates to certain fees charged by the secretary
26 of state. The bill removes a requirement that the secretary
27 of state charge $3 for a copy of a certificate with a seal
28 attached. The bill also repeals a provision requiring the
29 secretary of state to collect a fee of $25 per day prior to
30 issuing a transient merchant’s license. The bill additionally
31 strikes a provision requiring the secretary of state to collect
32 a fee of $2 prior to furnishing a certified copy of the federal
33 census to a requester.
