1 An Act expanding the definition of eligible student for
2 purposes of the future ready Iowa skilled workforce
3 last-dollar scholarship program.
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 261.131, subsection 1, paragraph g,
2 subparagraph (1), subparagraph division (a), Code 2021, is
3 amended to read as follows:
4 (a) A graduate of an Iowa high school, or a person who
5 completed private instruction under chapter 299A, or a person
6 who is a recipient of a high school equivalency diploma, and
7 who prior to becoming an adult learner enrolls full-time or
8 part-time during the academic year, or part-time for a summer
9 semester, in an eligible program at an eligible institution.
10 EXPLANATION
11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
12 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
13 This bill expands the definition of eligible student for
14 purposes of the future ready Iowa skilled workforce last-dollar
15 scholarship program to include persons who otherwise meet the
16 current requirements but enroll part-time during the academic
17 year. Currently, such a person must enroll full-time during
18 the academic year or part-time for a summer semester.
