3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 261.87, subsection 2, paragraph f, Code
2 2021, is amended to read as follows:
3 f. Begins enrollment at an eligible institution within
4 two academic years of graduation from high school or receipt
5 of a high school equivalency diploma under chapter 259A and
6 continuously receives awards as a full-time or part-time
7 student to maintain eligibility. However, the student may
8 defer or suspend participation in the program for up to two
9 years in order to pursue obligations that meet conditions
10 established by the commission by rule or to fulfill military
11 obligations.
12 EXPLANATION
13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
15 This bill provides that a student may suspend participation
16 in the all Iowa opportunity scholarship program for up to two
17 years under conditions established by rule by the college
18 student aid commission or to fulfill military obligations.
19 Currently, a student may only defer participation in the
20 program for up to two years for such purposes.
