1 An Act prohibiting the discharge of a firearm from within
2 or on a motor vehicle on a public highway, and providing
3 penalties.
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 481A.54, Code 2021, is amended by adding
2 the following new subsection:
3 NEW SUBSECTION. 2A. A person shall not discharge a firearm
4 from within or on a motor vehicle on a public highway.
5 EXPLANATION
6 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
7 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
8 This bill prohibits the discharge of a firearm from within
9 or on a motor vehicle on a public highway. A violation of the
10 bill is punishable by a scheduled fine of $30. In addition,
11 a person who violates the bill is subject to existing civil
12 damages in Code chapter 481A relating to unlawfully taking
13 an animal. An animal taken by a person while the person is
14 violating the bill is subject to seizure by the director of the
15 department of natural resources or a peace officer.
