STAND. COM. REP. NO.
Honolulu, Hawaii
MAR 30 , 2023
RE: H.C.R. No. 22
Honorable Scott K. Saiki
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirty-Second State Legislature
Regular Session of 2023
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Tourism, to which was referred H.C.R. No.
22 entitled:
“HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF
HONOLULU AND HONOLULU POLICE DEPARTMENT TO INCREASE POLICE
PRESENCE IN HALEIWA DUE TO AN INCREASE IN HOMELESS
INDIVIDUALS AND CRIME IN THE AREA,”
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to urge the City and County of
Honolulu and Honolulu Police Department to increase police
presence in Haleiwa due to an increase in homeless individuals and
crime in the area.
Your Committee did not receive any written testimony on this
measure.
Your Committee finds that there has been an increase in
criminal activity in Haleiwa, particularly because of the high
number of visitors to the area who are often victims of theft and
other crimes. Your Committee further finds that there is also a
growing concern about violent crimes committed by unsheltered
individuals in Haleiwa. Your Committee believes that an increase
in law enforcement presence in Haleiwa would help deter crime and
increase safety in the area for visitors and residents.
