 WHEREAS, appointing a native Hawaiian special assistant in the office of the governor will strengthen the bridge of communication between the native Hawaiian community, state agencies and other stakeholders, and the governor of Hawaii to address prevalent social and economic issues impacting the wellbeing of native Hawaiians in the state; and

 

        WHEREAS, a native Hawaiian special assistant would provide policy direction and collaborate with many stakeholders to address legislative priorities; and

 

        WHEREAS, a native Hawaiian special assistant would serve as a community liaison and direct point of contact in the governor   s office, which will increase opportunities for the native Hawaiian community to vocalize their concerns directly to the governor of Hawaii; now, therefore,

 

        BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2021, urges the governor of the state of Hawaii to appoint a native Hawaiian special assistant to serve as a liaison between the native Hawaiian community and the governor of Hawaii to serve the best interests of the native Hawaiian community in the state; and

 

        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Chairperson of the Hawaiian Homes Commission, and Chair of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Judiciary and Hawaiian Affairs.
