SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION

URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO INSTALL A RAISED CROSSWALK AT THE INTERSECTION OF KEONEULA BOULEVARD AND KAMAKANA STREET.

WHEREAS, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding is a contributing factor in nearly one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities in the United States; and

WHEREAS, in Hawaii, speeding is a contributing factor in nearly fifty percent of all traffic fatalities; and

WHEREAS, the frequency of speeding vehicles at the intersection of Keoneula Boulevard and Kamakana Street endangers the residents of Ewa Beach; and

WHEREAS, installation of raised crosswalks is an effective method of slowing traffic; and

WHEREAS, installing a raised crosswalk at the intersection of Keoneula Boulevard and Kamakana Street would help to reduce the number of speeding vehicles on the roadway and protect the residents of Ewa Beach; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2021, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Department of Transportation and City and County of Honolulu are urged to replace with a raised crosswalk the existing crosswalk located at the intersection of Keoneula Boulevard and Kamakana Street; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation, Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Chair of the Honolulu City Council, Director of the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services, Director of the Honolulu Department of Design and Construction, and Chair of the Ewa Neighborhood Board.
