The bill amends section 381.992 of the Florida Statutes to establish a public records exemption for information contained in the Parkinson's Disease Research Program Registry. Specifically, it states that any information that provides background on individuals served by the program, as well as any related information derived from it, will be exempt from public records requirements under s. 119.07(1) and s. 24(a), Art. I of the State Constitution. However, this information may still be shared with other governmental entities for official purposes without losing its exempt status. The exemption is subject to the Open Government Sunset Review Act and will automatically repeal on October 2, 2030, unless the Legislature reviews and reenacts it.

Additionally, the bill includes a statement of public necessity, emphasizing the importance of protecting personal identifying health care information from public disclosure. The Legislature argues that making this information public could invade individual privacy, hinder the effective administration of the registry, and potentially lead to harassment or solicitation of individuals identified in the registry. The act will take effect concurrently with SB 1800 or similar legislation, provided that such legislation is adopted in the same session or an extension thereof.
