2 A resolution recognizing February 21, 2021 as "Mixed
3 Connective Tissue Disease Awareness Day" in Florida.

5 WHEREAS, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD) is an
6 uncommon systemic inflammatory rheumatic autoimmune disease that
7 occurs approximately in two out of every 100,000 persons, and
8 WHEREAS, MCTD can occur at any time from early childhood to
9 elderly adulthood, with the average age of onset being 37 years,
10 and
11 WHEREAS, those who have MCTD may experience painfully cold
12 fingers and toes, pain in multiple joints or inflammation of
13 joints, skin inflammation in sun-exposed areas, hair loss, hand
14 swelling, fatigue, and muscle weakness, and
15 WHEREAS, although MCTD has no cure, medications can help
16 control the disease and the condition has been reported to
17 eventually enter a sustained remission in as many as 40 percent
18 of cases, and
19 WHEREAS, rheumatologists in Florida currently provide
20 services to diagnose, treat, and study MCTD, and
21 WHEREAS, increasing awareness and education of MCTD may
22 lead to significant progress in research to develop a cure, NOW,
23 THEREFORE,

26 Florida:

28 That February 21, 2021, is recognized as "Mixed Connective
