2 An act relating to residency status for tuition
3 purposes; amending s. 1009.21, F.S.; expanding the
4 list of persons who may not lose resident status for
5 tuition purposes; providing an effective date.

7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9 Section 1. Subsection (7) of section 1009.21, Florida
10 Statutes, is amended to read:
11 1009.21 Determination of resident status for tuition
12 purposes.—Students shall be classified as residents or
13 nonresidents for the purpose of assessing tuition in
14 postsecondary educational programs offered by charter technical
15 career centers or career centers operated by school districts,
16 in Florida College System institutions, and in state
17 universities.
18 (7) A person shall not lose his or her resident status for
19 tuition purposes solely by reason of serving, or, if such person
20 is a dependent child, by reason of his or her parent’s or
21 parents’ serving, in the Armed Forces outside this state:
22 (a) In the United States Armed Forces;
23 (b) On assignment for the United States Department of
24 State, United States Department of Homeland Security, or United
25 States Department of Defense; or
26 (c) As a teacher at a Department of Defense Dependent
27 School.
28 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2021.
