14 To order the closing of a portion of an alley in Square 358 abutting Lots 53, 54, 55, 56, 60, 61,
15 and 803 in Ward 1.

17 BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
18 act may be cited as the “Union Court Alley Closing and Public Safety Improvement Act of
19 2023”.
20 Sec. 2 (a) Pursuant to section 404 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved
21 December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code § 1-204.04), and consistent with the Street
22 and Alley Closing and Acquisition Procedures Act of 1982, effective March 10, 1983 (D.C. Law
23 4-201; D.C. Official Code § 9-201.01 et seq.) (“Act”), the Council finds that a portion of the
24 public alley connected to Union Court, N.W. in Square 358 abutting Lots 53, 54, 55, 56, 60, 61,
25 and 803, is unnecessary for alley purposes and orders it closed.
26 Sec. 3. Fiscal impact statement.
27 The Council adopts the fiscal impact statement in the committee report as the fiscal
28 impact statement required by section 602(c)(3) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act,
29 approved December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code § 1-206.02(c)(3)).
30 Sec. 4. Effective date.

31 This act shall take effect upon its approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto by the
32 Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), and a 30-day period of congressional review
33 as provided in section 603(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December
34 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code § 1-206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the District of
35 Columbia Register.
