resolution may be cited as the Washington Convention and Sports Authority BoardofDirectors

Ja_y Haddock Ortiz is_a 50 plus year veteranofthe hotel industry. He has held positions
with G and Metropolitan Hotels ofLondon, the Sheraton Corporation at their St. Regis
properties (NY & DC) andwas Executive Vice of Potomac Hotel Group (now Modus
Hotels) of Washington, DC. He was the President ofCapita] Hotels which he and his
partners sold in 2018. He formed Absolute Hospitality in 2016(presently on hold due to
the pandemic). Presently he is the senior advisor to the CEO for the Carlos Rosario
International Public Charter School (part time).
He has chaired the Office of Latino Community Development Commission - OLA - for
the Mayorofthe District of Columbia under Mayor Williams for 8 years and has served
on the board of Whitman Walker Clinic for 11 years- the largest HIV/AIDS clinic in the
country and created the "Art for Life" annual fund raiser to raise funds for Latino
programs for Latino HIV/Aids during the height ofthe pandemic. Overhis I I-year
chairmanshipof "Art for Life the eventraised $1,000,000. He presently serves on the
boardofdirectors ofthe Hotel Association of Washington, DC, the advisory boardof the
Carlos Rosario International Charter School's culinary program, and the advisory board
of GALA Hispanic Theater.
He has also served on the Advisory Board of the Regional U.S. Small Business
Administration and the Museum of the Organization of American States. He is presently
on the Boardof Events DC (The Washington Convention, Sports and Entertainment
Authority - a mayoral appointment since 2007. Over the years he has received the
Minority Business Leader Award from the Washington Business Journal, The Mayor's
Art Award, recognition from Vice President Al Gore on his work in the battle against
HIV/AIDS in the Latino Community, The Greater Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Chairman's Award, The exceptional achievement award from the Peruvian American
National Council, recognized as a leader in the Latino Comn:1unity of DC by El Tiempo
Latino newspaper Power 100, the NBC Working for You Community Award, The
General Manager of the year award from the WDC Hotel Association, Washington
Hispanic Newspapers Latinoofthe Year (Ringo Award) 2007, Education Eats
Restaurant Association Award, and Mayor's Office On Latino Affairs Community
Award 2017.
Jay Haddock Ortiz was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico and has been a resident of
Washington, DC since 1978 (ward 6). He is a graduateofSt. John's University of New
York. He is married to his partner of 53 years.

Julio Jay Haddock-Ortiz
Julio Jay Haddock-Ortiz is the senior advisor to the Carlos
Rosario Intemational Public Charter Schools Chief Executive
Officer and a current member of the Washington Convention
and Sports Authority Board of Directors (Events DC).
Mr. Haddock-Ortiz is a more than 50-year veteran of the hotel
industry. In 2016, Mr. Haddock-Ortiz formed Absolute
Hospitality and is the former President of Capital Hotels. Mr.
Haddock-Ortiz also served as Executive Vice of Potomac Hotel,
and with the Grand Metropolitan Hotels of London and the
Sheraton Corporation.
Mr. Haddock-Ortiz currently serves on the board of directors of the Hotel Association of
Washington, DC and the advisory boards of the GALA Hispanic Theater and the Carlos Rosario
Intemational Charter School's culinary program. In addition, he raised over $1 million during his
Whitman Walker Clinic Art for Life chairmanship to raised funds for Latino programs for
HIV/AIDS during the pandemic. Mr. Haddock-Ortiz also received the Washington Business
Joumals Minority Business Award, The Greater Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Chairman's
Award, and recognition from Vice President Al Gore on his work tackling HIV/AIDS in the Latino
community.
