To confirm the reappointment of Mr. C. Brian Williams to the Board of Library Trustees.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the BoardofLibrary Trustees C. Brian Williams Confirmation
Resolution of 2021.
Sec. 2. The Councilofthe District of Columbia confirms the reappointment of:

* In conjunction with the Soweto Dance Theater, launched an intemational arts & cultural
festival held annually in South Africa that is designed to promote dialogue between
American, European & South African communities. Manage the day-to-day operations of
an international arts organization that provides educational workshops and
performances to audiences worldwide.

Designed a 12-week artist residency program that linked dance to a seventh grade level
Spanish class. Successfully collaborated with classroom teacherto develop activities,
hand_ outs and choreography that engaged students while maximizing leaning
opportunities. Attended professional development workshops on evaluation, curriculum
development and residency planning,

AFRICARE, Washington, DC, 10/92 - 5/97
Responsible for the start-up & design of a multi-million-dollar human resource
development initiative aimed at improving the skills of historically disadvantaged
Namibians in the private sector. Also managed the placement & counseling forover 40
students each year under the South Africa Career Development Internship (GDI)
Program.

* Selected by the Embassy of Japan as oneofthirteen participants to represent the United
States in a Government of Japan-sponsored global youth initiative. Liased, consulted
and formed extensive networks with the youth and personnel of academic institutions,
corporations, private voluntary organizations and host country governments of thirteen
countries worldwide.

C. Brian Williams is the Founder and Executive Director ofStep
Afrika.
Mr. Williams is an experienced producer, writer, director, and
performer with more than twenty years experience in the
performing arts industry. Mr. Williams boasts extensive
knowledge and understanding of traditional African-American,
South African, and other artistic traditions and culture, He has
created, implemented, and evaluated innovative projects
emphasizing the connections between stepping, personal
development, and cross-cultural exchange. He is featured
in Soulstepping, the first book to document the history of
stepping, and several documentaries discussing the art form. Mr. Williams was also cited
by Washingtonian Magazines as one of the "40 Under Forty to Watch." He is a recipient of
the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Artist Fellowship; the Mayor's Art Award for
Innovation in the Arts; and the 2011 Pola Nirenska Award for Contemporary Achievement in
Dance.
A Ward 6 resident, Mr. Williams received a Bachelors of Art Marketing from Howard
University.
