RESOLVED. BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the Dr. Amber Hewitt Chief Equity Officer Confirmation Act of
2021

Dr. Amber Hewitt
Acting Chief Equity Officer
Dr. Amber A. Hewitt began her career as a tenure-track
professor teaching undergraduate and doctorate-level
courses in psychology, social justice, multicultural
counseling and diversity issues at the University of Akron
and Loyola University Chicago. Her research on adolescent
identity development and well-being, with a special focus on
African-American boys and young men, has been published
in several top-tier academic joumals. A counseling
psychologist by training, Dr. Hewitt has provided
psychotherapy and psychoeducational testing for children and families.
Most recently, Dr. Hewitt served as the Director of Health Equity at Families USA, a national,
nonpartisan consumer health advocacy organization, where she assisted in developing strategic
policy priorities to advance health equity and reduce disparities in health outcomes, health care
access, and quality. Prior to this position, Dr. Hewitt worked as a health care lobbyist for an
integrated, childrens health system. Dr. Hewitts also served as an American Psychological
Association/ American Association for the Advancement of Science health policy fellow in the
Office of U.S. Senator Cory Booker.
A ward 2 resident, Dr. Hewitt received a bachelors in biological sciences from the University of
Southern California, a masters ofart in psychology from Boston University, and a Ph.D. in
counseling psychology from Loyola University Chicago.
