                    IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

                                           May 4, 2021

To recognize April 15, 2021 as the first Immigrant Day of Resilience, to recognize the

       contributions and sacrifices made by the District of Columbias immigrant residents and

       visitors.

       WHEREAS, The District of Columbia strives to adhere and uphold the principles of the

U.S. constitution;

       WHEREAS, The District of Columbia firmly and unequivocally stands against

xenophobia, racism and violence against people because of their religious beliefs, ethnicity,

nationality, sexual orientation, income, or immigration status;

       WHEREAS, The District of Columbia firmly and unequivocally stands against

xenophobia, racism and violence against people because of their religious beliefs, ethnicity,

nationality, sexual orientation, income, or immigration status;

       WHEREAS, The District of Columbia is proud of the diversity and the enriching cultural

contributions of its immigrant residents;

       WHEREAS, The District of Columbia upholds the values of inclusion, resilience,

healing, liberation, democracy, compassion, solidarity, collective care and community;

       WHEREAS, The District of Columbia opens its arms to those who flee violence, poverty,

oppression, war, political and religious persecution and climate related disasters;

        WHEREAS, The District of Columbia strives to undo the harms caused by our country

racial history and aims to ensure that each and every person who lives or visits our city is treated

with dignity, respect and equality under the lawl;

       WHEREAS, The District of Columbia acknowledges the importance of art and culture as

key expressions of our values, vision, and collective history.

        RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this

resolution may be cited as the Immigrant Day of Resilience Ceremonial Recognition Resolution

of 2021.

      Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and celebrates the value of

immigrants within our community.

       Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
