8 To posthumously recognize of Eugene Roberson, Jr.

10 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., was born on May 19, 1937 in Washington, D.C. as
11 the son of the late Eugene Roberson, Sr., and Earle Rose McGuinn Roberson;
12
13 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., was a faithful and active member of Campbell A.M.E
14 Church from childhood;
15
16 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., attended D.C Public Schools and graduated from
17 Armstrong Senior High School in 1955;
18
19 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and
20 graduated with an associate degree in 1958;
21
22 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., served in the D.C. National Guard while attending
23 Bradley University, and after graduation, joined the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police
24 Department in 1961;

26 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., married Lorraine Proctor, his wife for over 62 years,
27 and they had three children, Deborah L. Roberson, Michael E. Roberson and Kurt E. Roberson;
28
29 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., enjoyed every aspect of boating, including being a
30 member of Seafarers of Annapolis, Maryland; Past Commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary
31 Flotilla (75) of Annapolis, Maryland; member of United States Power Squadrons and the
32 Potomac River Power Squadron, for which he served as the Safety Officer for 17 years; and a
33 member of the Chesapeake Cruiser Association;

35 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., was a Mason (Prince Hall affiliation), joined the
36 order of Easter Star and was the Patron of Naomi Chapter No. 9 and Fidelity Chapter No. 10; and
37
38 WHEREAS, Eugene Roberson, Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by family and
39 friends on Thursday, September 10, 2020.

41 IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF
42 COLUMBIA, That this resolution may be cited as the Eugene Roberson, Jr. Recognition
43 Resolution of 2020.

45 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia is proud to celebrate the life and
46 accomplishments of Eugene Roberson, Jr.
47
48 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in
49 the District of Columbia Register.
