14 To posthumously recognize and honor the life of Charles Tommy Harrison III.
15 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III., was born in the District of Columbia on
16 December 24, 1974;
17
18 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III lived in Ward 7 for 40 years;
19 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III attended schools in the District including
20 Benning Elementary, Our Lady Queen of Peace, and Archbishop Carroll High School;
21
22 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III attended Georgetown University for two
23 years before transferring to Wake Forest University where he earned his bachelors degree;
24
25 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III was recognized as an elite basketball player
26 throughout the entire Country;
27 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III received Washington Post All Met honors
28 while averaging 26 points per game at Archbishop Carroll High School;
29 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III started all 32 games as a freshman at
30 Georgetown University and was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team, finishing second on
31 the team in scoring behind Alonzo Mourning and ahead of Dikembe Mutombo;

33 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III helped the Wake Forest Demon Deacons
34 advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 during the 1992-93 season, and into the second round of the
35 NCAA tournament during the 1993-1994 season;

1 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III was inducted into the Archbishop Carroll
2 High School basketball Hall of Fame in 2015 as a member of the 1989 Metro Conference
3 championship team and was inducted as a player in 2016;

5 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III was a dedicated and valued member of the
6 Architect of the Capitol Team since 2000, where he worked in multiple positions;
7
8 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III dedicated his life as a coach and mentor to
9 student athletes across the District of Columbia;
10
11 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III served as Head Boys basketball coach of
12 Cardoza High School from 2014-2017;
13
14 WHEREAS, Charles Tommy Harrison III served as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach
15 of Cesar Chavez Charter High School from 2009 20013 and 2017 - 2019; and
16
17 WHEREAS, those left to cherish his memory, includes his three daughters: Charley
18 Harrison, Chayla Harrison, and Layla Harrison; Parents: Nancy and Charles Harrison II; brother:
19 Keith Harrison, and a host of friends.

21 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
22 resolution may be cited as the Charles Tommy Harrison III Posthumous Memorial
23 Recognition Resolution of 2020.

25 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia posthumously recognizes and honors the
26 life of Charles Tommy Harrison III for his outstanding contributions as basketball player and
27 his dedication to the youth of the District of Columbia; and declare July 28, 2020 as Charles
28 Tommy Harrison III Day in the District of Columbia.

30 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in
31 the District of Columbia Register.
