IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA,
To designate the park located at the 6100 block ofNorth Dakota Ave, N.W., between Quackenbos
St, N.W. and 2St, N.W., as the Ronald Ron Austin Memorial Park.
BE IT ENACTED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
21 act may be cited as the Ronald Ron Austin Memorial Park Designation Act of 2020.
22 Sec. 2. Findings.
23 (a) Ronald Austin was born and raised in Washington, D.C.
24 (b) Ronald Austin graduated from Calvin Coolidge Senior High School.
25 (c) Asa teenager, Ronald Austin was elected to the Neighborhood Planning Council, a
26 precursor to Advisory Neighborhood Commissions.
27 (d) Ronald Austin worked for the Districts Department of Recreation for over 24 years/
28 (e) Ronald Austin worked for Councilmembers John L. Ray, Adrian M, Fenty, and
29 Muriel E. Bowser, specializing in Constituent Services.
30 () Ronald Austin served as Director for the Mayor's Officeofthe Clean City.
31 (g) Ronald Austin served as ANC Commissioner of bothANC 4B06 and 4B07, as well
32 as Chair of ANC 4B.
33 (h) Through his various roles in District government and work in the community, Ronald
34 Austin became known as Mr. Constituent Services to many.
35 (i) Ronald Austin passed away on June 21, 2018.
36 Gj) Because Ronald Austin served the people of the District, Ward 4, Manor Park, and
37 ANC 4B06 and 4B07, and the park to be named in his honor is situated in 4B06, it is
38 fitting to have this park located in the 6100 block of North Dakota Avenue, N.W.,
39 between Quackenbos Street, N.W. and 2 Street, N.W.
40 Sec. 3. Pursuant to section 401 of the Street and Alley Closing and Acquisition
41 Procedures Actof 1982, effective March 10, 1983 (D.C. Law 4-201; D.C. Code 7-451), the
42 Council designates the park in the 6100 block of North Dakota Avenue, N.W., between
43 Quackenbos Street, N.W. and2Street, N.W., as the Ronald Ron Austin Memorial Park.
Sec. 4. Transmittal.
45 The Council shall transmit a copy of this act, upon its effective date, to the Director of the
46 Department of Parks and Recreation.
47 Sec, 5. Fiscal impact statement.
48 The Council adopts the fiscal impact statement in the committee report as the fiscal
49 impact statement required by section 4a of the General Legislative Procedures Act of 1975,
50 approved October 16, 2006 (12 Stat. 2038; D.C. Official Code 1-301.47a).
51 Sec, 6. Effective Date.
52 This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto by the
53 Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), a 30-day periodofcongressional review as
54 provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December
55 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code 1-206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the District of
56 Columbia Register.
