This bill requires the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, in consultation with the Department of Education, to conduct an evaluation of the effectiveness of fire drills and crisis response drills in public schools and their impact on children's mental health. The evaluation will include a review of annual reports submitted by local and regional boards of education, an analysis of security and vulnerability assessments and school security plans, an assessment of how crisis response drills are conducted, and a review of the effect of these drills on children's mental health and safety. The department must submit a report on its findings and any recommendations for legislation to the appropriate committee of the General Assembly by January 1, 2025.
