This bill establishes a working group to study methods of cardiac screening for early detection of cardiac issues in first responders. The working group will be convened by the Commissioner of Public Health and will include various members such as cardiologists, representatives of firefighter and police associations, and representatives of medical societies and hospitals. The Commissioner of Public Health is required to report the findings and recommendations of the working group to the General Assembly by January 1, 2024.
The purpose of this bill is to address the need for cardiac screening of first responders to detect cardiac issues early. The bill does not propose any deletions to current law, but it inserts new legal language to establish the working group and its responsibilities.
