Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
1 Section 1. Section 10-33 of the general statutes is repealed and the
2 following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2021):
3 Any local board of education which does not maintain a [high school]
4 school in which instruction is offered for grades kindergarten to twelve,
5 inclusive, or any combination of such grades, shall designate a [high]
6 school in another school district, approved by the State Board of
7 Education, as the school which any child under the jurisdiction of such
8 local board of education may attend, [who has completed an elementary
9 school course,] and such board of education shall pay to the local or
10 regional board of education for such other school district the tuition of
11 such child [residing with a parent or guardian in such school district
12 and attending such high school] attending or in order for such child to
13 attend school in such other school district.
14 Sec. 2. Subsection (j) of section 10-266aa of the general statutes is
15 repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1,

16 2021):
17 (j) Nothing in this section shall prohibit school districts from charging
18 tuition to other school districts [that do not have a high school] pursuant
19 to section 10-33, as amended by this act.
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
Section 1 July 1, 2021 10-33
Sec. 2 July 1, 2021 10-266aa(j)
Statement of Purpose:
To allow a board of education to pay tuition to another school district
for sending its elementary and middle school students to such other
school district.
