SPONSORS OF BILL:
Aging Committee
REASONS FOR BILL:
The property tax burden has become a financial hardship for some members of the aging
community. The bill will authorize municipalities to lower the age for property tax relief for
senior citizens, thus easing the potential hardships for some of the aging community.
RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION/AGENCY:
No testimony offered by state agencies.
NATURE AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT:
No testimony offered in support of this proposal
NATURE AND SOURCES OF OPPOSITION:
Zachary McKeown, Senior Legislative Assoc., Connecticut Conference of
Municipalities: They are opposed to this legislation because it would provide property tax
relief to a select few at the expense of the remaining local taxpayers and the towns and cities
cannot shoulder the burden of more property tax exemptions.
