AN ACT PROHIBITING PUBLICATION OF AN IMAGE OR A VIDEO OF
A FATAL ACCIDENT UNTIL A FAMILY OR HOUSEHOLD MEMBER
HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
1 Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2021) Any representative of the
2 press or other news media who takes a photographic, digital or other
3 visual image or video of the scene of a motor vehicle accident in which
4 a person was killed may not transmit, disseminate, broadcast or
5 otherwise publish such image or video until receiving confirmation
6 from the police officer, agency or other individual investigating such
7 accident that a member of the person's family or household has been
8 notified of the fatality pursuant to section 14-108a of the general statutes.
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
sections:

Statement of Purpose:
To prohibit members of the news media from publishing images or
videos of a fatal accident scene prior to notification of a family or
household member of the fatality.
