AN ACT LIMITING THE USE OF PERFLUOROALKYL AND
POLYFLUOROALKYL SUBSTANCES AND EXPANDED
POLYSTYRENE IN FOOD PACKAGING.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
1 That the general statutes be amended to require the Department of
2 Public Health to examine the availability of reasonable alternatives to
3 any food packaging product that contains an intentionally added
4 perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substance or expanded polystyrene
5 and prohibit the manufacture, sale and distribution for sale or for use in
6 the state any food packaging that contains a perfluoroalkyl or
7 polyfluoroalkyl substance or expanded polystyrene that was
8 intentionally added to such packaging in any amount when the
9 department has determined that a reasonable alternative to such food
10 packaging is available.
Statement of Purpose:
To limit the use of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances and
expanded polystyrene in food packaging.
