AN ACT CONCERNING THE WESTPORT LIBRARY ASSOCIATION.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
1 Section 1. Section 2 of number 228 of the special acts of 1907 is
2 amended to read as follows (Effective from passage):
3 Said association shall have a common seal which it may change or
4 alter at pleasure; may sue and be sued; may receive by gift, devise, or
5 bequest any property, real or personal, under such conditions and
6 restrictions as to its use, as may be legally imposed by the donor; and
7 may purchase, hold, manage, sell, and convey such estate, real and
8 personal, as may be necessary or convenient for establishing and
9 maintaining a public library in the town of Westport; and said property,
10 while used for the purposes of a public library, shall be exempt from
11 taxation.
12 Sec. 2. Section 3 of number 228 of the special acts of 1907 is amended
13 to read as follows (Effective from passage):
14 Said association shall have power, by a majority vote of its members,
15 at a meeting specially called for that purpose, to fill any vacancies in its

16 membership, other than those [among] members [elected] designated
17 by the town of Westport, [as hereinafter provided,] caused by death,
18 resignation, incapacity, or removal out of the state; may choose a
19 president, a vice-president, a secretary, a treasurer, and such other
20 officers as it shall deem necessary or expedient; and may make such by-
21 laws, rules, and regulations, not inconsistent with the laws of this state,
22 as it shall deem best for the management of the property and affairs of
23 said association, and the same alter or amend at pleasure. [If at any time
24 the number of members of the association shall be reduced below ten
25 the association shall elect some person or persons members thereof, so
26 that the number of members shall at no time be less than ten.]
27 Sec. 3. Section 6 of number 228 of the special acts of 1907 is amended
28 to read as follows (Effective from passage):
29 Said town of Westport [, at its annual town meeting, may elect three
30 persons who shall be ex officio members of the association and] may
31 designate seven persons as members of the association who shall serve
32 without pay. [Said persons shall hold office for one, two, and three
33 years, respectively, as designated by said vote, and the town may, at
34 each annual meeting thereafter, elect one person for three years to fill
35 the recurring vacancies.] All vacancies occurring by the death,
36 resignation, incapacity, or removal out of the state of any of said [ex
37 officio] members shall be filled by [the selectmen of] said town.
38 Sec. 4. Section 4 of number 228 of the special acts of 1907 is repealed.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
