complaints against peace officers; notification
Purpose
                      Requires a law enforcement agency, before accepting a complaint made against a peace officer, to provide the person making the complaint with a specified notice.
Background
                      It is a class 1 misdemeanor for a person to knowingly make to a law enforcement agency of the state or a political subdivision a false, fraudulent or unfounded report or statement or to knowingly misrepresent a fact for the purpose of interfering with the orderly operation of a law enforcement agency or misleading a peace officer (A.R.S.   13-2907.01).
                      There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1.   Requires a law enforcement agency, before accepting a complaint made against a peace officer, to provide the person making the complaint with a notice that it is a class 1 misdemeanor to knowingly make to a law enforcement agency a false, fraudulent or unfounded report or statement or to knowingly misrepresent a fact for the purpose of interfering with the orderly operation of a law enforcement agency or misleading a peace officer.
2.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
