The resolution acknowledges the significant public health issue of child abuse and neglect, highlighting the critical role of children's advocacy centers in addressing this problem. In 2023, these centers served approximately 381,364 children nationwide, with 9,412 of those being in Arkansas alone. The resolution emphasizes the various forms of maltreatment that children face, including neglect, physical and sexual abuse, and psychological harm, and recognizes the efforts of the Children's Advocacy Centers of Arkansas in providing essential support and services to affected children and their families.
In light of these concerns, the resolution commends the ongoing work to combat child abuse and proclaims April 17, 2024, as "Children's Advocacy Center Day" in Arkansas. This designation aims to raise awareness about the impact of child abuse on individuals and society, as well as to honor the dedication of those working to prevent and respond to such incidents. A copy of the resolution will be provided to Ms. Elizabeth Pulley, the Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Centers of Arkansas, upon its adoption.
