The resolution honors Nancy Jo Smith for her remarkable dedication and over fifty years of service to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), her patients, and the state of Arkansas. Beginning her journey in healthcare as a volunteer at the age of fifteen, Smith pursued her nursing education at Henderson State University and later at UAMS, where she participated in the inaugural nurse practitioner program. Throughout her career, she has held various roles, including working in the emergency department and burn unit, and serving as the chief nurse in the Department of Orthopedics. Since 2002, she has been the Director of Special Services, where she has gained a reputation as a problem solver and a respected figure within the UAMS system.
The resolution acknowledges Smith's significant contributions and her unwavering commitment to assisting the citizens of Arkansas, which has earned her recognition from the General Assembly. In 2022, she received the UAMS Award for Distinguished Service, with Chancellor Cam Patterson praising her can-do attitude. The Senate expresses its gratitude for her extensive service and plans to provide her with a copy of the resolution upon its adoption.
