14 COOPERATIVES OF ARKANSAS DAY AT THE
15 CAPITOL.

17 WHEREAS, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas were formed to provide
18 electricity to rural Arkansans in the 1930s; and
19
20 WHEREAS, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas include seventeen (17)
21 local electric distribution cooperatives, a generation and transmission
22 cooperative, and statewide services association cooperative; and
23
24 WHEREAS, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas are dedicated to
25 providing reliable, affordable power in a responsible manner for one million
26 two hundred thousand (1,200,000) members in seventy-four (74) counties or
27 sixty-two percent (62%) of the land mass across Arkansas; and
28
29 WHEREAS, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas are guided by seven (7)
30 cooperative principles and are governed by locally elected boards and
31 directors; and

33 WHEREAS, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas employ more than two
34 thousand one hundred (2,100) employees and a total of more than four thousand
35 (4,000) employees across the business enterprise; and

1 WHEREAS, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas are focused solely on
2 being advocates for their members and are dedicated to improving the quality
3 of life for their members,

5 NOW THEREFORE,
6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

9 THAT the House of Representatives recognize the Electric Cooperatives
10 of Arkansas as an organization that has been vital to the economic and
11 critical infrastructure growth for the State of Arkansas.
12
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the House of Representatives proclaim March 14,
14 2023, as Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas Day at the Capitol.
