16 STATE GOVERNMENTS SOUTHERN OFFICE.

18 WHEREAS, The Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South)
19 is a nonpartisan, nonprofit member organization that serves the southern
20 legislatures of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana,
21 Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee,
22 Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia; and
23
24 WHEREAS, with regionally based leadership and perspective and national-
25 level resources, CSG South provides southern legislators and government staff
26 with a wide variety of programs and services that facilitate regional
27 cooperation and encourage the exchange of information; and
28
29 WHEREAS, CSG South is governed by an executive committee made up of
30 legislative leadership, and policy topics are overseen by six standing policy
31 committees that consist of legislators and government staff from the member
32 states; and
33
34 WHEREAS, the mission of the organization is to serve as a community of
35 the states, committed to connecting, informing, inspiring, and empowering
36 public servants in all three branches of state government to put the best

1 ideas and solutions into practice; and

3 WHEREAS, in pursuit of this mission, CSG South has convened the
4 Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) for the past seventy-six (76) years,
5 beginning with its inception in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and moving into
6 decades of fellowship and cooperation between the fifteen (15) southern
7 states; and
8
9 WHEREAS, the Seventy-seventh Southern Legislative Conference will
10 convene in Charleston, South Carolina, from July 8 to 12, 2023; and
11
12 WHEREAS, more than one thousand five hundred (1,500) southern
13 legislators, government staff, and their families will gather to discuss
14 policy matters specifically affecting southern states to bridge commonalities
15 and discuss solutions for current policy trends, challenges, and
16 opportunities; and
17
18 WHEREAS, CSG South offers a welcome to all southern legislative,
19 executive, and judicial officials to attend,
20
21 NOW THEREFORE,
22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
23 STATE OF ARKANSAS:

25 THAT the Senate recognize the Seventy-seventh Southern Legislative
26 Conference of the Council of State Governments Southern Office.
27
28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be
29 provided to Council of State Governments Southern Office Director Lindsey
30 Gray by the Chief Secretary of the Senate.
