18 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

20 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code Title 1, Chapter 5, Subchapter 1, is amended
21 to add an additional section to read as follows:
22 1-5-121. Women Veterans Day.
23 (a) The General Assembly finds that:
24 (1) On June 12, 1948, President Harry S. Truman signed into law
25 the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, Pub. L. No. 80-625
26 allowing women the right to serve as permanent, regular members of the United
27 States Army, United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, and United
28 States Air Force;
29 (2) Women Veterans Day is observed on June 12 in the United
30 States to mark the anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act
31 of 1948, Pub. L. No. 80-625;
32 (3) Women Veterans Day is acknowledged as an effort to honor the
33 work of women in the United States Armed Forces and recognize the unique
34 challenges that women have faced; and
35 (4) Many states have officially recognized June 12 as Women
36 Veterans Day.

1 (b) June 12 of each year shall be known as "Women Veterans Day".
2 (c) Women Veterans Day is not a legal holiday but is a memorial day to
3 be commemorated by the issuance of an appropriate proclamation by the
4 Governor.
