22 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

24 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code Title 24, Chapter 8, Subchapter 2, is amended
25 to add an additional section to read as follows:
26 24-8-229. Payment of benefits — Survivors — Definition.
27 (a) The effective date of monthly benefits payable to a survivor of a
28 deceased member or a survivor of a deceased retiree under § 24-8-218 and §
29 24-8-219 is the first day of the calendar month next following the month in
30 which the member or retiree died, regardless of when the survivor submits an
31 application for the payment of the benefits.

33 SECTION 2. Arkansas Code Title 24, Chapter 8, Subchapter 7, is amended
34 to add an additional section to read as follows:
35 24-8-718. Payment of benefits — Survivors — Definition.
36 (a) The effective date of monthly benefits payable to a survivor of a

1 deceased member or a survivor of a deceased retiree under the Tier Two Actual
2 Judicial Service Benefit Plan is the first day of the calendar month next
3 following the month in which the member died, regardless of when the survivor
4 submits an application for the payment of the benefits.
