8 TO CONGRATULATE THE ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS MEN'S AND
9 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS ON INCREDIBLE SEASONS AND
10 QUALIFYING FOR THE NCAA TOURNAMENTS.

15 MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS ON
16 INCREDIBLE SEASONS AND QUALIFYING FOR THE
17 NCAA TOURNAMENTS.

19 WHEREAS, for the first time since 1995, the University of Arkansas at
20 Fayetteville men's Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team qualified for the
21 Elite Eight in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, held this
22 year in Indianapolis, Indiana; and
23
24 WHEREAS, following victories against the Colgate Raiders in the first
25 round with a score of 85-68 and the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the second
26 round with a score of 68-66, the Arkansas Razorbacks faced the Oral Roberts
27 Golden Eagles in the Sweet Sixteen, besting them by two (2) points for a
28 final score of 72-70, and qualifying the team for the Elite Eight and a
29 matchup with the Baylor Bears, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, eventual
30 national champion, and a team that the Arkansas Razorbacks nearly pushed out
31 of the competition; and

33 WHEREAS, Coach Eric Musselman and staff have done an outstanding job
34 bringing together an Arkansas Razorbacks men's basketball team primarily
35 composed of newcomers and persevering through perhaps the most challenging
36 year in college basketball history; and

2 WHEREAS, the men's team has excited the fan base and instilled a sense
3 of pride throughout Arkansas by their tremendous effort and success in
4 securing a spot in the Elite Eight twenty-six (26) years after the team's
5 last appearance; and

7 WHEREAS, for the first time since 2015, the University of Arkansas at
8 Fayetteville women's Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team qualified for the
9 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament, earning a No. 4 seed in the
10 Big Dance and the highest seed for the team since 1991; and
11
12 WHEREAS, during the regular season, the team became the first women's
13 team in program history to post back-to-back winning seasons in the
14 Southeastern Conference, as well as the first to post two (2) top-five wins
15 in the same season, beating both No. 4 Baylor University with a score of 83-
16 78 and No. 3 University of Connecticut by a score of 90-87; and
17
18 WHEREAS, with the in-season win against the University of Connecticut,
19 the Arkansas Razorback women are just one (1) of nine (9) teams since 2012 to
20 beat what many consider to be the gold standard in women's college
21 basketball, and the win against Baylor University was the first Arkansas
22 Razorbacks' victory against a defending national champion for the women since
23 1996; and
24
25 WHEREAS, Coach Mike Neighbors, in his fourth season with the Arkansas
26 Razorbacks women's basketball team, has led the amazing and talented group of
27 players to these accomplishments to ignite the fan base and set the record
28 for the two (2) most well-attended games in all of women's college basketball
29 this season,

31 NOW THEREFORE,
32 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
33 STATE OF ARKANSAS:

35 THAT the Senate congratulate Coach Eric Musselman, Coach Mike
36 Neighbors, and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville men's and women's

1 basketball teams for their incredible seasons and success in the NCAA
2 tournaments.

4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be
5 provided to Coach Eric Musselman and Coach Mike Neighbors by the Secretary of
6 the Senate.
