20 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

22 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code 27-51-301(a) and (b), concerning the
23 exceptions to the requirement that vehicles be driven on the right side of a
24 multilane roadway, is amended to read as follows:
25 (b) Motor vehicles shall not be operated continuously in the left lane
26 of a multilane roadway whenever it impedes the flow of other traffic
27 Except as otherwise provided in this section, a vehicle shall not be
28 driven upon the left lane of a multilane highway, except as follows:
29 (1) When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in
30 the same direction under the rules governing that movement;
31 (2) When all other lanes for traveling in the same direction are
32 closed to traffic while under construction or repair;
33 (3) When all other lanes for traveling in the same direction are
34 in disrepair or are in an otherwise undrivable or unsafe condition; or
35 (4) When a vehicle is preparing to exit the multilane highway on
36 the left.

1 (c)(1) The Arkansas Department of Transportation may designate
2 certain multilane highways or portions of multilane highways as prohibiting
3 continuous driving in the left lane except in those instances described in
4 subsection (a) of this section.
5 (2) For those multilane highways or portions of multilane
6 highways described in subdivision (c)(1) of this section and designated by
7 the department, the department shall erect periodic signs along the multilane
8 highway or portion of the multilane highway that notify the public of the
9 prohibition.
