17 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

19 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code Title 1, Chapter 5, Subchapter 1, is amended
20 to add an additional section to read as follows:
21 1-5-120. John R. "Johnny" Cash Day.
22 (a) The General Assembly finds that:
23 (1) John R. "Johnny" Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas;
24 (2) John R. "Johnny" Cash was a legendary musician, citizen of
25 the State of Arkansas, and contributed to the musical history of the United
26 States and Arkansas;
27 (3) The childhood home of John R. "Johnny" Cash in Dyess,
28 Arkansas, had a significant impact on his life and music; and
29 (4) The Historic Dyess Colony contains the restored family home
30 of John R. "Johnny" Cash as part of the preservation of the story of the
31 Dyess Colony, part of a 1934 New Deal program and the nation's largest
32 farming resettlement community during the Great Depression.
33 (b) February 26 of each year shall be known as "John R. "Johnny" Cash
34 Day to honor the musical contributions of John R. "Johnny" Cash to the
35 United States and Arkansas.
36 (c)(1) John R. "Johnny" Cash Day is not a legal holiday but is a

1 memorial day.
2 (2) The Governor may issue the appropriate proclamation to
3 commemorate John R. "Johnny" Cash Day each year.
