10 TO REMEMBER SERGEANT TRAVIS WALLACE FOR HIS SERVICE
11 AND COMMITMENT TO THE STATE OF ARKANSAS AND HIS LOCAL
12 COMMUNITY.

20 WHEREAS, on November 12, 2020, Correctional Field Sergeant Travis C.
21 Wallace died as a result of injuries incurred while on duty with the Helena
22 West Helena Police Department in West Helena, Arkansas; and
23
24 WHEREAS, in attempting to apprehend suspects in an earlier shooting,
25 Sgt. Wallace sustained mortal injuries when the suspect opened fire on
26 officers; and
27
28 WHEREAS, Sgt. Wallace was a five-year veteran of the Arkansas
29 Department of Corrections, East Arkansas Regional Unit; and
30
31 WHEREAS, Sgt. Wallace served the State of Arkansas during his career
32 through employment with the Arkansas Department of Corrections, the Helena
33 West Helena Police Department, the Marvell Police Department, the Crittenden
34 County Sheriffs Department, the Marianna Police Department, and as a School
35 Resource Officer for the Marianna School District; and

1 WHEREAS, his service and heroism reflected the outstanding character of
2 both correctional and law enforcement officers; and
3
4 WHEREAS, Sgt. Wallace was a devoted father, son, brother, nephew,
5 uncle, and loyal and respected member of the communities of Dundee,
6 Mississippi, and West Helena and Marianna, Arkansas,
7
8 NOW THEREFORE,
9 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
10 STATE OF ARKANSAS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN:
11
12 THAT the individual members of the Senate express sincere condolences
13 to the family of Correctional Sergeant Travis C. Wallace and commend his
14 heroic actions and outstanding contributions to the State of Arkansas.
15
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption of this resolution, a copy shall be
17 transmitted to Ms. Thelma Watts, mother of Correctional Sergeant Travis C.
18 Wallace, by the Secretary of the Senate.
