8 REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TAKE
9 APPROPRIATE ACTION UNDER UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION,
10 ARTICLE 5, TO PROPOSE AN AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED
11 STATES CONSTITUTION PROVIDING THAT THE SUPREME COURT
12 OF THE UNITED STATES SHALL BE COMPOSED OF NINE (9)

17 REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES
18 CONGRESS TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO
19 PROPOSE AN AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES
20 CONSTITUTION PROVIDING THAT THE SUPREME
21 COURT OF THE UNITED STATES SHALL BE
22 COMPOSED OF NINE (9) JUSTICES.

25 WHEREAS, United States Constitution, Article 5, provides that the
26 United States Congress, whenever two-thirds (2/3) of both houses shall deem
27 it necessary, shall propose amendments to the United States Constitution to
28 the several states for ratification,

30 NOW THEREFORE,
31 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
32 STATE OF ARKANSAS, AND BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, A MAJORITY OF ALL
33 MEMBERS ELECTED TO EACH HOUSE AGREEING THERETO:

35 THAT the General Assembly requests that the United States Congress
36 propose an amendment to the United States Constitution for ratification by

1 the several states that reads as follows:
2 "The Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of nine (9)
3 justices."

5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the General Assembly requests that the
6 legislatures of each of the several states request that the United States
7 Congress propose an amendment to the United States Constitution providing
8 that the Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of nine (9)
9 justices.

11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Secretary of the Senate transmit a copy
12 of this joint resolution to the President of the United States Senate, the
13 Secretary of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House
14 of Representatives, the Clerk of the United States House of Representatives,
15 the members of the Arkansas congressional delegation, and the presiding
16 officer of each house of the legislatures in the several states.
