9 AN ACT TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING TERMS OF OFFICE OF
10 COUNTY ELECTED OFFICERS TO COINCIDE WITH THE ARKANSAS
11 CONSTITUTION; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

17 COINCIDE WITH THE ARKANSAS CONSTITUTION.

20 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

22 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code 14-14-609(b)(2), concerning a referendum on
23 a proposed plan for alternative county organization, is amended to read as
24 follows:
25 (2) If approved by a majority of those voting on the question,
26 the proposed plan for alternative county organization shall become is
27 effective on January 1 following the next general election at in which the
28 plan was approved by the electors, or two (2) years following the general
29 election at which the plan was approved by the electors altered or
30 consolidated county offices appeared on the ballot.

32 SECTION 2. Arkansas Code 14-14-1203(d), concerning county
33 compensation and expense reimbursements, is amended to read as follows:
34 (d) Decreases in Salary.
35 (1) Any A decrease in the annual salary or compensation of a an
36 elected county constitutional officer shall is not become effective during a

1 current term of office.
2 (2) A decrease fixed by the quorum court of the county is not
3 effective until January 1 following a general election held after the
4 decrease has been fixed by the quorum court of the county in which the county
5 constitutional officer appeared on the ballot.

7 SECTION 3. Arkansas Code 14-14-1302(a), concerning the election of
8 county officers, is amended to read as follows:
9 (a) County Officers. The qualified electors of each county in this
10 state, at the time of electing members of the General Assembly each regular
11 gubernatorial election, shall elect, until otherwise provided by law, all
12 county officers for the term of two (2) four (4) years and until their
13 successors are elected and qualified.
