8 TO CONGRATULATE THE CABOT SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE
9 SCHOOLS WITHIN THE DISTRICT ON BEING NAMED PURPLE
10 STAR SCHOOLS.

15 AND THE SCHOOLS WITHIN THE DISTRICT ON
16 BEING NAMED PURPLE STAR SCHOOLS.

19 WHEREAS, established in 1998, the Military Child Education Coalition
20 is a nonprofit organization that supports all military-connected children by
21 educating, advocating, and collaborating to resolve education challenges
22 associated with the military lifestyle, and it created the Purple Star
23 program to help mitigate the challenges of high mobility by setting standards
24 for and publicly designating military-friendly schools; and
25
26 WHEREAS, the Purple Star program was launched to help states work with
27 schools to help children of military families who are continuously being
28 moved around from school to school; and
29
30 WHEREAS, because military-connected families move three (3) times more
31 often on average than their civilian counterparts, these families are
32 required to be tough and agile, and the Purple Star program seeks to reduce
33 this burden on families by articulating the most critical transition supports
34 for military-connected families, publicly designating schools that meet those
35 support requirements, and signaling to military-connected families which
36 schools are the most committed and best equipped to meet the military-

1 connected families' needs; and

3 WHEREAS, the Arkansas Purple Star School Award for military-friendly
4 schools was created to recognize schools that show a major commitment to
5 serving students and families connected to our nations armed forces with a
6 special Purple Star recognition to display in their building and to be
7 recognized on the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education's website;
8 and
9
10 WHEREAS, schools within the Cabot School District were the first in the
11 state to be designated Purple Star Schools; and
12
13 WHEREAS, the Cabot School Board adopted a resolution of support for
14 military children and families, and Cabot School District has dedicated a web
15 page on its website featuring resources and services to help military
16 families, stating in part that the district appreciates the sacrifices these
17 families make, supports the approximately one thousand (1,000) military-
18 connected students in the district, and commits to serving them both
19 emotionally and academically,

21 NOW THEREFORE,
22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
23 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

25 THAT the House of Representatives congratulate the Cabot School
26 District and the schools within the district for being named Purple Star
27 Schools.

29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption of this resolution, a copy shall be
30 transmitted to the Superintendent of the Cabot School District by the Chief
31 Clerk of the House of Representatives.
