20 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

22 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code Title 6, Chapter 16, Subchapter 1, is amended
23 to add an additional section to read as follows:
24 6-16-152. Hunting safety course.
25 (a) A public school or public school district may offer to its public
26 school students in grades five through twelve (5-12) a hunting safety course
27 as part of the public school's or public school district's physical education
28 and health and safety curriculum.
29 (b) A hunting safety course offered as part of the physical education
30 and health and safety curriculum by a public school or public school district
31 shall:
32 (1) Be based on the hunter training and safety program offered
33 by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission under 15-43-238; and
34 (2) Be taught by an individual who meets the qualifications the
35 commission requires individuals to meet in order to teach a hunting training
36 and safety program offered by the commission.

1 (c)(1) A public school or public school district that offers a hunting
2 safety course under this section may use an operable firearm as part of the
3 hunting safety course.
4 (2) A "firearm" under subdivision (c)(1) of this section means
5 the same as defined in 5-1-102(6).
6 (d) The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education shall provide a
7 list of source materials available for public schools and public school
8 districts to use to teach a hunting safety course under this section, which
9 may include without limitation the following topics:
10 (1) Firearm safety;
11 (2) The proper handling of a firearm;
12 (3) Hunting techniques; and
13 (4) Wildlife conservation.
