This bill, titled the "Relating to public contracts" act, prohibits governmental entities from entering into contracts with companies that boycott businesses based on certain criteria. The bill defines a "company" as a for-profit entity and specifies that sole proprietorships are not included. It defines an "economic boycott" as refusing to deal with or take commercial action against a company solely because it engages in certain sectors or does not meet certain environmental or corporate governance standards. The bill also prohibits governmental entities from requiring companies to engage in economic boycotts or penalizing them for not doing so. It authorizes the Attorney General to take actions to prevent federal laws or actions from penalizing or limiting the activities of companies or residents of the state based on economic boycott criteria. The bill provides definitions for key terms and specifies that it applies to contracts entered into on or after October 1, 2023.
