4 SYNOPSIS:
5 Existing law authorizes the Secretary of State
6 to dispose of publications of state legislative
7 proceedings and acts, codes, and departmental reports
8 as long as he or she retains 10 copies of each series
9 of legislative acts, session journals, and pre-1975
10 codes.
11 This bill would reduce the number of such
12 volumes the Secretary of State is required to keep from
13 10 to five, including the Code of Alabama 1975.

18 AN ACT

20 Relating to the Secretary of State; to amend Section
21 36-14-6, Code of Alabama 1975, to provide for a reduction of
22 the number of bound sets of legislative acts and codes
23 required to be retained by the Secretary of State.
24 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
25 Section 1. Section 36-14-6, Code of Alabama 1975, is
26 amended to read as follows:
27 "36-14-6
28 The Secretary of State may dispose of, at public or

29 private sale, in such quantities and at such price as may be
30 deemed most expedient, all acts, journals, codes, department
31 reports, and all other books in his or her custody, excepting
32 the codes of 1975; provided, that 10five copies of each series
33 of the acts, 10five copies of the journal of each session of
34 the House and Senate, and 10five copies of the codes issued
35 prior to 1975 shall be preserved and kept in the custody of
36 the Secretary of State."
37 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first
38 day of the third month following its passage and approval by
39 the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
