4 HR____ COMMENDING JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA, INCORPORATED,
5 FOR ITS EXCEPTIONAL COMMITMENT TO THE EDUCATIONAL AND
6 CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF YOUTH, THE CULTIVATION OF FUTURE
7 LEADERS AND ITS CELEBRATION OF JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA,
8 INCORPORATED'S LEGISLATIVE DAY AT THE CAPITOL ON APRIL 20,
9 2023.

11 WHEREAS, on January 24, 1938, the late Marian Stubbs,
12 an acclaimed pianist and civic organizer, along with 20
13 other mothers, gathered to create an organization of African
14 American mothers with children from ages 2-19 with the goal
15 of providing educational, cultural, and social activities
16 for youth; and
17 WHEREAS, since its inception, Jack and Jill of
18 America, Incorporated, has grown exponentially with 262
19 chapters across seven geographical regions, representing
20 more than 50,000 families nationwide with each chapter
21 planning annual programming activities guided under a
22 national theme through service projects and civic
23 engagement, which creates a medium to cultivate children,
24 stimulate their growth and development, and train future
25 leaders; and

26 WHEREAS, the Jack and Jill of America Foundation,
27 Incorporated, is the philanthropic arm of Jack and Jill of
28 America, Incorporated, and since its inception in 1968, has
29 distributed millions of dollars to communities across
30 America; and
31 WHEREAS, on April 20, 2023, Alabama's seven chapters,
32 Birmingham (President Erica Edwards Lankford), Greater
33 Huntsville (Dawn Stanley), Mobile (President Danielle
34 Roberts), Montgomery (President C. Nichole Thompson),
35 Tuscaloosa (President Mara Ray Jones), and Tuskegee
36 (President Yashica Frazier), will convene at the State House
37 for the Annual Jack and Jill Day at the Capitol to advocate
38 for issues as set forth by the National Legislative Agenda
39 in the areas of voting education and awareness, support for
40 the Crown Act, gun control and stricter gun laws, policing
41 reform, and mental health awareness and education; now
42 therefore,
43 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
44 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That this body commends the
45 members of the Alabama Chapters of Jack and Jill of America,
46 Incorporated, for their tireless efforts and outstanding
47 work in their respective communities and across this state.
48 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House
49 of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an
50 appropriate copy of this resolution available for
