This bill creates the crime of doxing and establishes penalties for violations. Doxing is defined as intentionally electronically publishing, posting, or providing personal identifying information of another individual with the intent to harass or harm that individual, or of a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or public servant with the intent to harass, harm, or impede their duties. Violations of this law are classified as a Class A misdemeanor for the first offense and a Class C felony for subsequent offenses. The bill includes exceptions for political speech protected by the First Amendment and the publication of contact information of public officials for the purpose of lobbying.

The bill is excluded from further requirements and application under Section 111.05 of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022 because it defines a new crime or amends the definition of an existing crime. The bill will become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor or its otherwise becoming law.
